ambient sound

This project was an experiment in audio  input/output.  The setup included a display screen, microphone, and headphones.  A viewer would put on the headphones and watch the visuals.   The microphone was used to listen to all the sounds and noises in the space.  In real-time, the frequency with the highest amplitude was converted to the closest corresponding note on a piano, generating a continuous composition. Each square represented a different note, and the movement is based on the amplitudes, like a pinwheel being blown by the sounds.   The following clip is a short excerpt recorded from the piece.
